Youngblood sues Hendrix’s estate and Martin Scorsese

Saxophonist, Lonnie Youngblood, is suing Jimi Hendrix’s estate, MCA Records and Martin Scorsese for failing to pay him royalties.
Youngblood asserts that he and Hendrix co-wrote the song “Georgia Blues” in 1969, but that he didn’t receive any royalties when the song was released in 2003 on the collection “Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues: Jimi Hendrix.” |
According to Youngblood, he copyrighted “Georgia Blues” in 2002 and was offered $3,000 for rights to the song by Hendrix’s estate around that time, which he refused. Now Youngblood is seeking unspecified damages because the song was released without his permission and he didn’t receive any profits.
Jimi’s very first recording session was with Lonnie Youngblood in late 1963. Jimi was going by the name Jimmy James at the time and this was before his stints with the Isley Brothers and Little Richard. Jimi and Lonnie collaborated on thirteen tracks over the course of several sessions, including “Go Go Shoes,” “Go Go Place,” “Soul Food (That’s What I Like),” “Goodbye Bessie Mae,” “Sweet Thang,” “Groovemaker,” “She’s A Fox,” “Wipe the Sweat” and “Under the Table.”
