Van Morrison’s classic album “Moondance” (1970) has been reissued with previously unheard material, including the lost song “I Shall Sing”.

The album is available in three formats:

• a five-disc Deluxe Edition including 50 previously unreleased outtakes, multiple takes and a final mix of the unheard track “I Shall Sing”, and the original album remastered on both CD and on Blu-ray audio (in high resolution and surround sound)
• a two-disc Expanded Edition feauturing 11 previously unreleased outtakes and the original album remastered
• a single-disc Standard Edition featuring the original album remastered.

The original “Moondance” engineer, Elliot Scheiner, carried out the surround mixes and oversaw the remastering. Morrison’s rendition of “I Shall Sing” has never been heard before, but Art Garfunkel did have a hit with the song in 1973 and featured it on his debut solo album the same year.

Van Morrison has resisted the release of outtake material for years, so it’s a treat for fans to have the opportunity to hear so much material from one of his most highly regarded sessions. The Deluxe Edition is the way to go if your budget permits, as it has a wealth of unreleased gems that provide excellent insight into how one of the great albums of the period came together. There are multiple takes of nearly every track on the album, including “Into The Mystic,” “Glad Tidings,” “Brand New Day,” “Come Running,” and the title track. Also included are three early takes of “I’ve Been Working,” a song which would later appear on the “His Band And The Street Choir” album.
