Tom Jones’ “Spirit In The Room” out in May
Written by admin on April 2, 2012 – 7:13 am -Tom Jones has announced that the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2010 album “Praise and Blame” will be “Spirit In The Room,” to be released on May 21.
“Praise and Blame” saw Jones return to his roots with a fine collection of R&B and gospel-influenced material, delivered with a back-to-basics approach encouraged by producer Ethan Johns, who is also at the helm for “Spirit In The Room.” |
The decision to reteam with Ethan Johns bodes well for this new album, which includes interpretations of songs by a diverse selection of writers, including Paul McCartney (“(I Want To) Come Home”), Tom Waits (“Bad As Me”), Paul Simon (“Love And Blessings”), Leonard Cohen (“Tower Of Song”), and Richard Thompson (“Dimming Of The Day”).
“Spirit In The Room” was recorded at Real World studios in Bath, with some of the personnel who appeared on “Praise and Blame,” including multi-instrumentalist Ethan Johns, Richard Causon on keyboards and guitar, and Ian Jennings on bass. Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa was recruited to play drums.
