Tom Jones as James Bond?

Sir Tom Jones has said that he was once considered for the role of James Bond.

In an interview with Smooth Radio, Jones said:

Tom Jones as James Bond “I think it came from Cubby Broccoli, who was the man in charge, of course, and he said when my name was put forward, ‘Tom Jones is so recognisable as Tom Jones – he’s a character, he’s become this singer with a big character’.

“‘So in order for him to do James Bond, would people accept him as being James Bond? Could they get past him being Tom Jones?’ – and so apparently that was what the problem was.”

George Lazenby took over from Sean Connery for “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” in 1969 and it seems likely that this was the movie Jones was under consideration for.

Tom did of course have involvement in the James Bond franchise, singing the theme tune to “Thunderball.”

So can you imagine Tom in the role of James Bond?
