The Zombies to receive home town honour
Written by admin on April 24, 2012 – 7:28 pm -A Blue Plaque marking the spot where The Zombies first met in 1961 will be unveiled at 2pm on Friday, April 27 at the Blacksmith’s Arms Pub in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Members of the band will be in attendance, including Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone.
The Blue Plaque scheme commemorates the link between notable figures and the buildings in which they lived or worked. The Zombies are receiving the honour as a result of a year-long campaign by fan Tony Dawson-Hill, who says:
| “I am a huge fan of The Zombies and have been ever since I first saw them live in ’63 / ’64 at the Ballito Stocking Factory in St Albans. The idea for the Blue Plaque came about because Rod Argent always tells the story of how all five original members of the band first met outside the Blacksmith’s Arms pub in St Albans and my wife Gill suggested it would be a good idea to commemorate this momentous occasion with a Blue Plaque.” |
The Blacksmith’s Arms is located at 56 St. Peters Street, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL1 3HG.
The Zombies remain an active studio and live band, with a new album titled “Breathe Out, Breathe In” released last year, and a tour starting next month, which includes a US leg in July.
