The Monkees reuniting for 45th anniversary tour
Written by admin on February 22, 2011 – 9:43 pm -The Monkees are set for a reunion tour of the UK in May. This will be the first time the group has played in the UK for 12 years.
The reunion comes 45 years after the Monkees’ hit show first appeared on US television. The show led to a string of huge hits and popular concert tours. |
At present, only Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork are definitely on board for the tour, but there are rumours that Mike Nesmith could also appear at some point. A source told ITN:
“Mike loves the idea of joining his old friends on stage one more time. He hasn’t signed a contract because he wants it to be a complete surprise.” |
The Monkees are scheduled to play the following UK tour dates:
- May 12 – Echo Arena, Liverpool
- May 14 – Manchester Apollo
- May 15 – City Hall, Newcastle
- May 16 – Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow
- May 19 – Royal Albert Hall, London
- May 20 – City Hall, Sheffield
- May 21 – NIA Academy, Birmingham
- May 23 – Plymouth Pavillions
- May 24 – CIA, Cardiff
- May 25 – Royal Centre, Nottingham.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 about the reunion, Davy Jones said:
“We realised that the records are being played on the radio all the time. The fans are still there and the letters are still coming and so why not? We have a great time when we’re together and we enjoy each others’ company when we are on the road. It’s a fun time.” |
