Billy Joel to receive Gershwin Prize for Popular Song
Written by admin on July 22, 2014 – 2:49 pm -Billy Joel will become the sixth recipient of the prestigious Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at a ceremony in November.
The award, named after songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin, recognises “a living musical artist’s lifetime achievement in promoting the genre of song as a vehicle of cultural understanding; entertaining and informing audiences; and inspiring new generations.”

Carole King receives Gershwin Prize for Popular Song
Written by admin on May 23, 2013 – 7:17 pm -Carole King has become the first female recipient of the prestigious Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The award was presented by President Obama during a special gala in the East Room of the White House on Wednesday night.
The all-star gala included performances by Billy Joel, Gloria Estefan, Emeli Sande, James Taylor, Jesse McCartney and Trisha Yearwood.

Paul McCartney receives Gershwin Prize from President Obama

The President paid tribute to McCartney’s long career:

Paul McCartney to perform at the White House
Written by admin on May 22, 2010 – 7:59 pm -Sir Paul McCartney will perform a concert at the White House in July, after President Obama has presented him with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
McCartney is the third recipient of the Gershwin award, after Paul Simon in 2007 and Stevie Wonder in 2009, both of whom are expected to take part in the McCartney concert, along with Elvis Costello and Dave Grohl. |
