George Harrison and the Bee Gees to receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

George Harrison and the Bee Gees will receive the Recording Academy’s ® Lifetime Achievement award at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in February.

The same honour will go to blues guitarist Buddy Guy, French composer Pierre Boulez, Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez, country music duo the Louvin Brothers, and saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter.

George Harrison guitar sells for $657,000

A 1962 Rickenbacker 425 guitar owned by George Harrison sold for $657,000 (£390,000) at Julien’s Music Icons auction on Saturday.

The guitar was purchased by Harrison in September 1963 at Fenton’s Music store in Mount Vernon, Illinois, while he was on a two-week visit to see his sister, Louise.

Ravi Shankar dies aged 92

Ravi Shankar, the legendary sitar player who helped introduce Indian music to the West, died last night at a hospital near his home in San Diego, California. He was 92.

Shankar underwent heart-valve replacement surgery last week, but according to a statement from his wife and daughter, “Unfortunately, despite the best efforts ofthe surgeons and doctors taking care of him, his body was not able to withstand the strain of the surgery.”
