Song of the Week #5 – “That’s All Right”

Elvis Presley’s very first single, “That’s All Right,” is this week’s song of the week.

This is one of the most important songs ever recorded. Nineteen-year-old Elvis Presley, with sidemen Scotty Moore (guitar) and Bill Black (bass), were on a break during a studio session when they began improvising on an old blues song by Arthur Crudup. Producer Sam Phillips was amazed by what he heard and asked them to back up and try it again. The result was a new and unique sound which became known as rockabilly.

Guitar legend Eric Clapton celebrates his 65th birthday today.

Eric Clapton is widely regarded as one of the most influential and important guitarists of all time. He has produced outstanding work throughout his career, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Yardbirds, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos.

Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010

Over 20 of the world’s best guitarists will play at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010 on 26 June at Toyota Park, Chicago. It is an all day event and gates open at 10am.

This will be the third Crossroads Guitar Festival. The previous events were in 2004 and 2007. As in previous years, all profits will benefit The Crossroads Centre in Antigua, which is a treatment and education facility founded by Clapton for chemically dependent persons. Clapton and Daltrey rock Tulsa
