Deep Purple’s “Machine Head” – 40th anniversary box set
Written by admin on October 8, 2012 – 9:43 pm -Deep Purple are releasing a five-disc box set to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their 1972 album “Machine Head”. The release includes four CDs, one DVD and a 60-page book.
“Machine Head” was Deep Purple’s sixth studio album and third featuring the so-called Mark-II line-up of Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Roger Glover (bass), Jon Lord (keyboards), and Ian Paice (drums). The band began recording the album in December 1971 at the Grand Hotel in Montreux, Switzerland. A fire at their intended recording location at the Montreux Casino inspired the classic song “Smoke On The Water,” which opened side two of “Machine Head”.
