Sting to release new album in September
Written by admin on June 4, 2013 – 8:56 pm -Sting’s latest album, “The Last Ship,” will be released in September. The album is Sting’s first album of original material since 2003’s “Sacred Love”.
“The Last Ship” grew out of a stage musical of the same name, which is set in a shipyard in the north of England during the 1980s. The musical will be directed by Joe Mantello and is expected to debut on Broadway next year.
“The Last Ship” album will include a number of songs from the musical and several tracks that Sting wrote for the musical but decided not to include. A New York Times report notes that the title track is “a waltz-time folk tune, heavy with Christian imagery and told in a Northern English dialect”. Also mentioned are a “jazzy folk number” titled “As Yet,” which is sung from the point of view of a sailor returning home, and “Dead Man’s Boots,” which is described as “a tense dialogue between a father who works in the shipyard and a son who wants to do something else with his life”.
The album will be released by Cherrytree, Interscope and A & M Records on September 24 and is available for pre-order now in standard and deluxe CD editions, and on vinyl.
