Springsteen duets with Dropkick Murphys
Written by admin on January 25, 2011 – 5:34 pm -Bruce Springsteen has recorded a duet with the Dropkick Murphys for their forthcoming album “Going Out In Style.”
Those expecting the duet to be a new song or resurrection of a rock classic might be surprised by their decision to record “Peg O’ My Heart.” The song was penned in 1913 by Alfred Bryan and Fred Fisher, and featured in the musical “Ziegfeld Follies.” It has since been recorded by many artists, including Glenn Miller, Gene Vincent, Joni James and Pat Boone. In the UK it is well known as the theme from the 1986 television series “The Singing Detective.”
The Dropkick Murphys first met Springsteen about five years ago when he watched one of their gigs in New York. They got the idea to ask Bruce to do a duet on “Peg O’ My Heart” while on tour in Australia. Dropkick Murphys frontman, Ken Casey, told Rolling Stone:
“We reworked it and changed the time signature. It had this Fifties rock & roll vibe. We were like ‘this sounds like something that the E Street Band would pull out.’ That’s how we got the idea to invite Bruce to sing on it. Thank god for modern technology. We were able to send him the song across the world.” |
Ken Casey joined Bruce on stage on August 23, 2009 at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. They performed a duet on Springsteen’s “American Land” (song starts 55 seconds in):
“Going Out In Style” will be released on March 1 and is available for pre-order now:
