Small Faces “Here Come the Nice” box set
Written by admin on February 5, 2014 – 6:01 pm -The limited edition Small Faces box set, “Here Come the Nice,” curated by original band members Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones, is out now.
“Here Come the Nice” is intended as a comprehensive round-up of the second half of the Small Faces’ output, after they had left Decca and signed to Andrew Loog Oldham’s Immediate Records.
“Here Come the Nice” comprises four CDs of great music, as well as:
- Three red, white and blue 7″ EPs
- Replica Olympic Studios acetate with unheard alternate take
- 72-page hardback book with foreword by Pete Townshend
- Sleeve notes by Mojo’s Mark Paytrees
- 64-page lyric booklet with Small Faces memorabilia and photos
- Two posters for Tin Soldier and the Newcastle City Hall Concert
- Facsimile of the “Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake” press kit
- Five collectors edition postcards
- Two fine art prints by Gered Mankowitz from the 1967 “Itchycoo Park” photo sessions
- Signed certificates from Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones.
Disc One brings together the A and B sides of worldwide mono singles on Immediate in excellent remastered sound. Discs Two and Three present studio outtakes and alternate versions which provide a fascinating insight into how the band’s classic songs were created. There are also early versions of songs that were never released during the Small Faces’ career.
Disc Four includes alternate mixes, as well as live tracks from Newcastle City Hall that previously appeared on the German “In Memoriam” LP but are now heard in much better quality.
