Roberta Flack covers the Beatles
Written by admin on April 13, 2010 – 8:40 am -An album of Beatles covers is on the way from soul legend Roberta Flack, although the in-progress recordings were nearly lost in the back of a New York taxicab, according to the New York Times.
Thankfully, the cab was located and the suitcase full of the songs was returned to a relieved Flack. |
The full line-up of songs hasn’t been released, but in February Roberta confirmed that she had already recorded “Here, There and Everywhere,” “Here Comes the Sun,” “Come Together,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude.”
This sounds like an interesting project. The tentative title for the album is “Let It Be Roberta.” No release date has been confirmed.
Roberta Flack will be among the performers at this year’s Jazz Foundation of America’s annual “A Great Night in Harlem.” The event will be held at the Apollo Theater on Thursday, May 20, beginning at 8pm. Other performers scheduled to appear are Little Jimmy Scott, Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, Madeleine Peyroux, Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks, Manno Charlemagne, Davell Crawford, Sweet Georgia Brown & The Blues Crusaders, and more.
Here’s Roberta in her prime with the classic “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”
