“Queen – Live at Wembley” streamed for Freddie’s Birthday
Written by admin on September 6, 2011 – 5:20 pm -Queen are streaming a 90-minute version of “Queen – Live at Wembley” on YouTube in celebration of what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 65th Birthday yesterday.
The classic 1986 gig took place on Saturday, July 12 and is generally regarded as a career highlight for the band. A 25th anniversary DVD release of “Queen – Live at Wembley” also came out yesterday in the UK in standard (2DVD) and deluxe (2DVD/2CD) formats. The big selling point for the anniversary release is that, in addition to the classic Saturday show, it includes the whole of the Friday night show for the first time. |

Also out in the UK are reissues of the last five Queen albums – “The Works,” “A Kind Of Magic,” “The Miracle,” “Innuendo” and “Made In Heaven.” All have been remastered and are available in standard or deluxe formats. The previous batch of reissues are also out next week in the US/Canada, with the latest available on import.
Freddie’s former bandmates, Brian May and Roger Taylor, celebrated Freddie’s birthday last night with a party at The Savoy Hotel, which included a live band and other entertainment, and a charity auction to benefit the Mercury Phoenix Trust. In a tribute to Freddie on Queen’s official website, Brian May said:
“Freddie would have been 65 this year, and somehow, even though physically he is not here, his presence seems more potent than ever. I think he will always epitomise the perfect front-man – the consummate channel of communication between a band and an audience. Freddie made the last person at the back of the furthest stand in a stadium feel that he was connected. Freddie gave people proof that a man could achieve his dreams – made them feel that through him they were overcoming their own shyness, and becoming the powerful God-like figure of their ambitions. And he lived life to the full. He devoured life. He celebrated every minute. And, like a Great Comet, he left a luminous trail which will sparkle for many a generation to come.” |
