Paul McCartney’s “Ocean’s Kingdom” out in October

McCartney’s score comprises one hour of music over four movements – “Ocean’s Kingdom” (14:07), “Hall of Dance” (16:19), “Imprisonment” (13:36) and “Moonrise” (12:29).
The recording was made in London in June, with John Wilson conducting and John Fraser producing. |
McCartney has commented on the challenge of writing for a ballet:
| “What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.” |
The “Ocean’s Kingdom” ballet premieres at New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala on Thursday September 22.
This is not McCartney’s first foray into classical music. He has composed four classical albums, including the Classic BRIT Award winning “Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart.”
“Ocean’s Kingdom” is released on October 4 in the US/Canada and October 3 in the UK. It is available for pre-order now at:
