Paul McCartney promotes “Venus and Mars” reissue with free “Letting Go” download

Paul McCartney has offered a free download of a previously unheard version of the song “Letting Go” ahead of the deluxe reissues of “Venus and Mars” and “Wings at the Speed of Sound”.

“Letting Go” closed side one of “Venus and Mars,” which was released in May 1975, and was also released as a single several months later. The free download is an extended version of the track, without backing vocals or horns, and it does not appear on either the standard or deluxe reissues which are released on November 4.

Paul Simon performs at Phil Everly fundraiser

Paul Simon paid tribute to the late Phil Everly at an intimate fundraiser in Nashville on Wednesday night (Oct 29).

The event, organised by Everly’s widow, Patti, took place at the Belle Meade house of Nashville socialite, Sylvia Roberts. Among those in attendance were songwriters Bob DiPierso and Brett James, and cast members of the ABC show “Nashville” (the house is used as the home of the character Rayna Jaymes on the show).

The Who have issued a new compilation titled “The Who Hits 50!” to mark their 50th anniversary.

Available in standard and deluxe editions, “The Who Hits 50!” charts the band’s incredible career, from “Zoot Suit” (recorded while still called The High Numbers) up to the brand new track “Be Lucky”.

David Gilmour working on new solo album

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has told Rolling Stone that he is working on a new solo album, which will be his first since “On an Island” (2006).

Gilmour said:

It’s coming along very well. There are some sketches that aren’t finished, and some of them will be started again. There’s a few months’ work in it yet. I’m hoping to get it out this following year. Then I’m hoping to do an old man’s tour, not a 200-date sort of thing.

Jack Bruce – 1943-2014

Jack Bruce, former bassist and singer with 1960s supergroup Cream, passed away today (Oct 25) at his home in Suffolk aged 71. He had been suffering from liver disease.
