“Otis Redding – Soul Ambassador” documentary
Written by admin on June 2, 2013 – 10:12 am -BBC Four devoted a night to Otis Redding on Friday with the screening of the documentary “Otis Redding – Soul Ambassador” and concert film “Otis Redding & Friends: Stax Volt Revue ’67”.
The “Soul Ambassador” documentary follows Otis from his childhood in Georgia to his untimely death in 1968. Viewers are treated to home movies, rare and unseen performances, and interviews with Otis’ friends, family, bandmates and celebrity fans, including Rod Stewart, Elton John, Tom Jones and Bryan Ferry.
The documentary will be repeated Sunday night/Monday morning at 00:30. It will also be available on BBC’s iPlayer until June 10.
“Otis Redding & Friends: Stax Volt Revue ’67” was filmed in Norway during the 1967 Stax tour. The film features a great five-song set from Otis, as well as excellent contributions from Booker T & The MGs, Arthur Conley, Sam and Dave, Eddie Floyd, and the Mar-Keys.
The concert film is also available on BBC’s iPlayer until June 7.
