New single and album from Tom Jones
Written by admin on May 22, 2010 – 8:08 am -Tom Jones will celebrate his 70th birthday on June 7 and to mark the occasion he’s releasing a single featuring covers of John Lee Hooker’s “Burning Hell” and Bob Dylan’s “What Good Am I?”
These tracks will give an idea what to expect from Tom’s new album “Praise and Blame,” which is due on July 26. The album has been produced by Ethan Johns (Laura Marling, Kings of Leon, Paulo Nutini, Rufus Wainwright). |
The press release promises that Tom will perform:
“stripped down interpretations of gospel, blues, traditional and country songs, wearing his heart on his sleeve, emotionally raw and true.” |
The above description seems apt, if the rest of the album matches the mood and production of “What Good Am I?” Here’s a preview, courtesy of seaninsound over at soundcloud.com:
The full track listing for “Praise and Blame” is:
- What Good Am I
- Lord Help The Poor & Needy
- Did Trouble Me
- Strange Things Happen Everyday
- Burning Hell
- If I Give My Soul
- You Don’t Knock
- Nobody’s Fault But Mine
- Didn’t It Rain
- Ain’t No Grave
- Run On
Here’s Tom Jones and Ethan Johns in the studio talking about the forthcoming album.
Release dates apply to the UK. The album should be out later in the year in the US.
