Diamond began writing songs while studying medicine at New York University and it was as a Brill Building songwriter that he achieved his first success, penning such classics as “I’m a Believer” for the Monkees (although he had already recorded it himself). Diamond’s breakthrough hit was “Solitary Man” in 1966 and he would go on to have 16 Top Ten albums and 37 Top Ten singles.
Among Neil Diamond’s best known and most enduring hits are “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon”, “Sweet Caroline”, “Holly Holy”, “Cracklin’ Rosie”, “I Am…I Said”, “Song Sung Blue”, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” (with Barbra Streisand) and “Forever in Blue Jeans.” |

Sirius XM Radio joins the birthday celebrations by re-launching Neil Diamond Radio, which had a seven-day run last October. Neil Diamond Radio will air on Sirius Internet Radio channel 804 and XM Radio Online channel 31.
Diamond will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March. On hearing the news, he told Rolling Stone:
“I think it’s great. I’m happy that that they recognized me and my work. Any club that has Chuck Berry and Little Richard and The Everly Brothers is a club that I want to be a part of.” |
Diamond is going on tour next month, covering New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. He is promoting his latest album “Dreams“, which features interpretations of his favourite rock tunes.
“Dreams” hit number eight on both the Billboard album chart and the UK album chart when released last November. |
