The contents of the Beverly Hills mansion where Michael Jackson lived before his death in 2009 have been auctioned for nearly $1 million.
The 100 North Carolwood Drive auction included fine art, antiques, quality modern furniture and other collectibles from the residence. The $1 million total by far exceeded Julien’s Auctions’ pre-sale estimate of $200,000 to $400,000. |
Highlights of the auction included:
- a kitchen chalkboard where Jackson’s children wrote “I love daddy” ($5,000)
- an armoire upon which Jackson wrote a message to himself on the mirror ($25,750)
- the rug that was beneath the bed that Jackson died on ($15,360).
The latter item seems a touch macabre, but less so than the bed’s headboard which was sensibly removed from the auction at the family’s request.
Darren Julien, president of Julien’s Auctions, said:
“Michael Jackson has the greatest fans in the world. I can see why he lived for them. They came out every day this week to bring gifts. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen as it relates to a celebrity and their fans.” |
The tributes from fans will be delivered to Jackson’s children.
