MCartney opened the show with “Got to Get You Into My Life” and then there were performances from Stevie Wonder (“We Can Work It Out”), the Jonas Brothers (“Drive My Car”), Emmylou Harris (“For No One”), Jack White (“Mother Nature’s Son), Herbie Hancock and Corinne Bailey Rae (“Blackbird”) and Faith Hill (“The Long and Winding Road”).
The evening concluded with the full cast returning to the stage to join McCartney in a rendition of “Hey Jude.”
This event became well known for Paul McCartney’s off the cuff comment about George W. Bush – “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a president who knows what a library is.” This will not be included in the PBS show, as it occured after the actual show had concluded.
The show will air tonight at 8 p.m. ET on PBS stations nationwide, followed by an encore presentation at 9:30 p.m.
