Lost Doo-wop masters found in NYC apartment
Written by admin on February 3, 2011 – 5:48 pm -A treasure trove of Doo-wop rarities is set for release after many Coed Records masters were found at a recording engineer’s New York City apartment. The masters came to light when Beach Road Music LLC acquired the historic Coed Records catalogue, featuring performers such as the Riverias, the Crests and Trade Martin.
Coed Records was formed in 1958 in New York’s Brill Building and had many classic hits, including “16 Candles” by the Crests and “You Belong to Me” by the Duprees. |
Beach Road technicians have been busy digitizing the tapes and have come across some important rarities along the way, including a recording by the late Johnny Maestro that was thought to be lost forever.
Beach Road released the first Volume in their Coed Records Lost Master Tapes series on January 31 on iTunes. The tracklist is as follows:
- Ingemar Johansson – Johnny Lion
- Lawrence Was His Name – The Miller Brothers
- It Started All Over Again – Margie Day
- Philly Stomp – Guy Joey
- Tell Her Now – The Visions
- Send For Me – Margie Day
- Liverpool Baby – Trade Martin
- Too Young To Be A Widow – Cobey Carson
- Anna – Guy Joey
- Rain Came Down – The Visions
- Who Cares – The 8th Wonders Of The World
- Come A Runnin’ – Carrie Nelson
- Let Me Know – Margie Day
- The Great Physician – Johnny Maestro (As Johnny Masters).
