Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson will deliver one of the most unusual performances of his long career when he takes part in an ‘out of this world’ duet with US astronaut Colonel Catherine Coleman on Sunday (April 12). Anderson will be appearing on stage in Perm, Russia and Coleman will link up live from the International Space Station for a performance of the track “Bouree.”

The duet marks the 50th anniversary of Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarins first manned space flight in 1961.

The song “Bouree” appears on Tull’s album “Stand Up” which was released as a deluxe three-disc edition last October. The set includes the original album, a live show from Carnegie Hall, and a DVD-Audio disc containing the same Carnegie Hall show in 5.1 surround sound, as well as an interview with Anderson.

Jethro Tull are touring North America in June to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their classic album “Aqualung.” The following dates are confirmed:

Ian Anderson is also performing an acoustic tour in the UK in September 2011. The 13-date tour will feature Tull classics, lesser-known songs and some new tracks. Anderson will be joined on stage by German guitarist Florian Opahle and pianist/ accordionist/percussionist John O’Hara. Here’s the UK dates:
