Huey Lewis and the News – “Soulsville”
Written by admin on October 22, 2010 – 7:31 pm -Huey Lewis and the News will release their new album “Soulsville” on November 2.
Their first album since 2001’s “Plan B” features covers of classic songs from the Stax Records vault, including “Respect Yourself”. “Got To Get You Off My Mind” and “Cry to Me.” |
The Grammy Award winning band last tackled classic R&B and soul songs on their great 1994 album “Four Chords and Several Years Ago” and they do have a real affinity for the material.
“Soulsville” was recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis which was established in the 1960s and recorded acts such as Sam & Dave, Led Zeppelin, Isaac Hayes, Leon Russell and The Staple Singers.
The album also reunites Huey Lewis and the News with producer Jim Gaines, who worked on their classic 1980s albums “Sports” and “Fore!“. Gaines also worked at Stax as a young man.
This is Huey Lewis and the News’ ninth studio album since their debut “Huey Lewis and the News” in 1980. Some fans may have preferred an album of original songs, but most will be glad to have some new material from the band.
The “Soulsville” tracklist is as follows:
- Don’t Fight It
- Got To Get You Off My Mind
- Free
- Respect Yourself
- Cry To Me
- Just One More Day
- Never Found A Girl
- Soulsville
- Little Sally Walker
- I Want To (Do Everything For You)
- Just The One (I’ve Been Looking For)
- Don’t Let The Green Grass Fool You
- Never Like This Before
- Grab This Thing.
“Soulsville” was released in Europe on October 18 and will be available in the US from November 2.
While looking forward to the album, let’s step back in time and enjoy one of the band’s early songs from their second album “Picture This.”
