We celebrate the USA’s birthday with four great American songs.
“An American Trilogy” – Elvis Presley
Elvis took Mickey Newbury’s medley of American songs and made it his own in February 1972. Eleven months later, he performed the song on his worldwide television broadcast, “Aloha From Hawaii”.
“American Land” – Bruce Springsteen
Springsteen celebrated the pioneering spirit of American immigrants in this 2006 song which he featured on a special edition of his “We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions” album.
The song was inspired by “He Lies In The American Land” by Andrew Kovaly/Pete Seeger.
“America” – Neil Diamond
Neil Diamond’s song about the immigrant experience featured in his 1980 movie “The Jazz Singer”. The song reached number eight on Billboard’s Hot 100 when released on single in 1981.
“Living in America” – James Brown
James Brown livened up the soundtrack to the Rocky IV movie in 1985 with this catchy tune.
