Happy Birthday to Dion and Martha
Written by admin on July 18, 2010 – 7:00 am -Two of the great group leaders of the golden era of popular music share a birthday today. Dion DiMucci hits 71 and Martha Reeves hits 69.
Lets enjoy two classic songs from each.
Dion DiMucci
Dion DiMucci was only 18 years old when he scored a top 20 hit with his band the Belmonts in early 1958. The song was “I Wonder Why” and other classic songs such as “Teenager in Love” followed before Dion went solo in 1960. Dion’s biggest chart success actually came after his time with the Belmonts, with the smash hits “Runaround Sue” (#1) and “The Wanderer” (#2). The Del-Satins backed Dion on these tracks, but it is common for the Belmonts to be wrongly credited on both.

Martha Reeves
Martha and the Vandellas were one of Motown’s most successful groups between 1963 and 1967, scoring six top ten hits in the US, including “Dancing in the Street” (#2) and “Nowhere to Run” (#8) in 1964 and 1965, respectively.
