Davy Jones 65th birthday British-born Davy Jones was already a seasoned performer when he was cast in The Monkees television show in 1966. He was discovered while on broadway playing the part of the Artful Dodger in “Oliver!”

Davy still tours, performing new material and classic songs from The Monkees era. He also breeds and rides racehorses.

Here’s a two-part interview with Davy Jones from November 11, 2010 on WCTC 96.5 FM in Chincoteague, VA.

Mike Nesmith was the most accomplished musician when The Monkees were first cast. The Texan had been doing session guitar work on the East Coast before moving to LA in 1965 and releasing several singles. He was also the driving force in turning The Monkees into a legitimate creative unit.

Nesmith left the band in 1969 to pursue other projects, including forming The First National Band. He later moved into film and tv production, but continued making music, releasing 13 solo albums to
date.
