Freddie Mercury biopic in progress

Guitar legend Brian May has confirmed that work is underway on the biopic based on the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, with shooting expected to commence later in the year.
The title role will be played by Sacha Baron Cohen, who is best known for his comic creations Ali G, Borat and Bruno. |
May told Queen Online:
| “Work is now fully underway for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie!” |
| “The whole team [are] now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late autumn of 2012.” |
It is thought that the film will conclude in triumphant fashion, with a recreation of Queen’s Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985.
Remastered versions of Queen’s Greatest Hits I and II were released in the UK on January 3.
