Franklin and Wonder to perform at Whitney’s funeral
Written by admin on February 17, 2012 – 8:16 am -Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder are expected to sing at Whitney Houston’s funeral on Saturday, which takes places at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Franklin was Houston’s godmother, as was singer Darlene Love, who will also attend the funeral.
Others confirmed on the guest list are Houston’s cousin Dionne Warwick, her ex-husband Bobby Brown, Oprah Winfrey, Chaka Khan, Valerie Simpson, Diane Warren, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Ray J and Brandy. Houston’s “Bodyguard” co-star, Kevin Costner, is expected to speak, as is her musical mentor, Clive Davis. The eulogy will be given by gospel singer and family friend, Marvin Winans.
The New Hope Baptist Church was where Houston began singing as a child, along with her mother Cissy Houston, and cousin Dionne Warwick.
The funeral is not open to the public, but the Associated Press is streaming the service on http://livestream.com/aplive
