Elvis Presley would have celebrated his 76th birthday today and as usual fans are marking the day throughout the world.
The Elvis Presley Day Ceremony takes place at Graceland this morning at 9:30 am EST. The ceremony will include a birthday cake cutting by Chilean miner Edison Peña, and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials on the mansion’s front lawn. |

The birthday celebrations in Memphis do not end there. From 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, fans will gather at the Memphis Marriott East to hear stories from Elvis’ friends, bandmates and co-stars. At 8:00 pm, Terry Mike Jeffrey will take to the stage with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for his annual birthday show at the Canon Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Memphis. To close the Elvis Birthday Week in Memphis, on Sunday morning from 8:00 am to 9:15 am the Imperials will perform a gospel show at the ticket pavilion at Graceland. The Imperials worked with Elvis in the studio and on stage for several years.
The Elvis birthday events are not restricted to Memphis. The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles hosted an event last night in which Steve Binder (the producer of Elvis’ legendary 1968 television special) shared his memories of working with Elvis. There is also a special screening of “Blue Hawaii” at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd tonight. The screening marks the 50th anniversary of the movie and begins at 7:30 pm.
