Elvis Presley 78th Birthday celebrations
Written by admin on January 8, 2013 – 8:14 am -Elvis Presley would have celebrated his 78th Birthday today and as always fans around the world have descended upon the the rock ‘n’ roll legend’s Memphis home to pay tribute to their idol.
The Elvis Birthday celebrations kicked off on Saturday and will conclude today at Graceland with the annual Elvis Presley Day ceremony at 9:30am EST. The ceremony will include a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials.
Visitors to Graceland have been treated to a new exhibit “Elvis’ Hawaii: Concerts, Movies and More!” which opened on Saturday. The exhibit celebrates Elvis’ long association with Hawaii, including the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking “Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite” concert, the earlier shows in 1957 and 1961, and the three movies he made there in the 1960s.
Highlights of the exhibit include the two American Eagle jumpsuits that Elvis wore for the rehearsal and broadcast “Aloha From Hawaii” shows, the gold lamé jacket that he wore in his first Hawaiian concert in 1957, previously unseen footage from the 1957 show, and rare movie memorabilia.
