Written by admin on September 28, 2010 – 7:03 pm -Elton John’s mother, Sheila Farebrother, is selling off a huge collection of her son’s memorabilia next month.
The 227 item collection is going on sale at Gorringes Auctioneers in Lewes, East Sussex, on October 19. |
Among the highlights of the auction are:
- a multi-platinum disc marking 11 million sales of “Candle In The Wind”, which was re-written in tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997
- a platinum disc for the first million sales of the 1973 album “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”
- four silk Versace stage suits that Elton wore on tour
- artwork by Sam Taylor-Wood which featured on the sleeve of his album “Songs from the West Coast”
- discs commemorating 43 million record sales in the United States.
Mrs Farebrother said of her famous son:
“From an early age Elton would love to perform at family weddings and birthdays. When his career as a performer began to take off I would go along to his concerts and my main concern was that he didn’t foget any of his lyrics! It wasn’t until the concert in Madison Square Garden in 1974 when John Lennon made an appearance on stage and sang with Elton that I realsed he had become a world superstar.” |
The online auction catalogue will be available the week before the sale.
