Elton John and Leon Russell – “The Union”
Written by admin on July 1, 2010 – 10:06 pm -Elton John has collaborated with American singer-songwriter Leon Russell on a new album, appropriately titled “The Union.” The album was produced by T-Bone Burnett.
The collaboration between John and Russell comes 40 years after the two toured together. |
According to Elton John’s songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, Russell was a big influence on Elton’s piano style. Russell played on countless classic tracks as a session musician throughout the 1960s and went on to have solo success in the country rock field in the 1970s.
Taupin asserts that the album will have a different sound to previous offerings from Elton John, noting “This is organic recording unlike anything you’ve heard from our duo before.” A total of 15 tracks have been recorded, which Taupin says range from “Stones-like rockers” to a “Sinatra-like weepy.”
Earlier in the year, Billboard reported that Neil Young, Booker T. Jones, Marc Ribot and Jim Keltner are among the guests who have contributed to the album.
“The Union” will be released on October 19.
