Doobie Brothers “World Gone Crazy” to be released in September
Written by admin on July 8, 2010 – 9:40 pm -It’s been a long wait for new material from the Doobie Brothers, but a new album, “World Gone Crazy,” is set for release on September 28.
The band has reunited with their original producer Ted Templeman for their first album in a decade. Templeman produced the Doobie Brothers’ first 10 albums and he persuaded the band to re-record “Nobody,” which was the lead track on their first album and will be the first single released from “World Gone Crazy.” |
The band has been working on the album on and off for three years and vocalist, Tom Johnston, has told Billboard that it is “more musically diverse than anything we’ve done in the past.” He also explained how the band’s relationship with Templeman has developed:
“Back then he was more of a director as well as a producer, and now that’s not really quite the case. Everybody’s matured a great deal in songwriting and playing…so this time it was more like we produced with Ted as much as he produced us. It was kind of a collaboration, and it worked very well.” |
Commenting on how it feels to be releasing a new album after such a long break, Johnston said:
“It’s kind of like starting all over again. We haven’t had an album out for 10 years; the last one (‘Sibling Rivalry’) didn’t do that much, so we haven’t had one that people really know since ‘Brotherhood’ in ’91 and, before that, ‘Cycles’ that had ‘The Doctor’ on it. So it is kind of like starting all over again and getting in the new way that music is being marketed and distributed and sold these days, which has changed so dramatically. So we’ll see how we can fit into that.” |

I bought this album & found it to be excellent in every way. The musicianship is superb as well as the guest muscians, who are probably old friends as well as hired guns. The Doobie Brothers are great players, not just a bunch of boogie rockers featured at biker rallies.(I have nothing against bikers or rallies) The song writing is top notch & the songs feel like your wearing your favorite / familiar piece of apparel. Lush harmonies, great picking & keyboard playing. The rhythm section is pretty crushing also. I have seen the Doobie Brothers live several times recently & not so recent & found them to still cook with ferocity. Nothing sounds stale & those vocals! Did I mention I like this album?! Keep “Rollin’ down the highway”
