Debbie Harry portraits on show in London
Written by admin on January 26, 2013 – 8:03 pm -Proud Chelsea are presenting a collection of portraits of Debbie Harry taken from 1977 to 1988 by photographer Brian Aris. The “Debbie Harry Queen of Punk” exhibition is open until February 17 at the London gallery.
Brian Aris was first asked to photograph Debbie Harry in 1977, just before her band Blondie became a huge success with hits such as “Denis” and “Hanging On The Telephone”.
“Nobody could have been more surprised than I was when Debbie finally walked into my studio for that initial shoot. No band, no heavy American management presence – just a quietly-spoken, polite and extremely beautiful girl with a natural but devastatingly sexy look. She floored everybody there.”
The exhibition includes a number of Harry’s portrait sittings from Blondie’s heydey, shots taken in her New York apartment, and nostalgic Polaroids. Never before seen shots will be featured, including stills taken from the video shoot of “Island of Lost Souls” on the Scilly Isles; and sittings in London and NY.
Proud Chelsea is located at 161 Kings Road, London, SW3 5XP.
