Dame Shirley Bassey to perform at the Oscars
Written by admin on February 10, 2013 – 9:04 am -Dame Shirley Bassey will make her debut appearance at the Academy Awards on February 24 as part of a James Bond tribute.
Bassey sang the theme songs to “Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker,” so will presumably perfom one of those songs or a medley.
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the producers of the show, said in a statement:
“We are thrilled to welcome the legendary Dame Shirley Bassey to our Oscar show. Her association with film music is world renowned and we are proud that she will be making her first Oscar appearance on our telecast.”
Here’s a great vintage performance from Dame Shirley, who is celebrating her 60th year in show business this year.
“Diamonds Are Forever” – Shirley Bassey
The James Bond franchise celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with the 23rd official movie “Skyfall”. The Academy has not been kind to the franchise though, with only two Oscars awarded in that time (“Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” both won for Best Effects). “Skyfall” could reverse that trend as it has been nominated for Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Cinematography. Adele will perform the theme song on the night and will be hoping to match the success she has already had with the song at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
Norah Jones and Barbra Streisand will also perform at the ceremony.
The 85th Academy Awards will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatreā¢ at Hollywood & Highland CenterĀ®.
