Macca on Letterman

Paul McCartney has returned to the Sullivan Theater in New York 45 years after The Beatles breakthrough performance on the Ed Sullivan show.

Paul made his first and long overdue appearance on the David Letterman show tonight, during which he performanced a special mini-concert on top of the Theater Marquee – a nod to the famous Beatles’ rooftop concert. Songs performed included ‘Get Back’, ‘Sing the Changes’, ‘Coming Up’, ‘Band on the Run’, ‘Let Me Roll It’, ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Back in the USSR’.

Harrison gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

George Harrison, who passed away in 2001, has been posthumously recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Stars who joined Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and their son, Dhani, at the ceremony on April 14 included Paul McCartney, Tom Hanks, Tom Petty, Eric Idle, Jeff Lynne, Joe Walsh, and T-Bone Burnett.

First ever Masters degree on The Beatles

Liverpool Hope University is offering what it claims to be the first Masters degree on The Beatles.

Mike Brocken, course leader and senior lecturer in popular music at Liverpool Hope University, said:

“There have been over 8,000 books about The Beatles but there has never been serious academic study and that is what we are going to address. The Beatles influenced so much of society, not just with their music, but also with fashion from their collar-less jackets to their psychedelic clothes. Their output covered a huge range from the black and white film A Hard Day’s Night to Strawberry Fields Forever which was accompanied by arguably the first pop video. Forty years on, now is the right time and Liverpool is the right place to study The Beatles.”

Happy Birthday George

Today would have been George Harrison’s 66th birthday. The Beatles legend was born on 25 February 1943, the last of four children to Louise and Harold Harrison. He sadly died aged just 58 on 29 November 2001.
George Harrison While often labelled the ‘quiet Beatle’, George played a vital role in the development of the band’s sound and was an integral part of their success. Although clearly overshadowed on the songwriting front by Lennon and McCartney, George did pen a number of classic songs in this period, including Here Comes the Sun, Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
