The New Releases page has been updated to include music CD, DVD and Blu-ray releases for September.

New CD releases September 2011

After a fairly ordinary month in August, there are a large number of quality releases this month. Highlights include:

  • Beatles “1” album reissue using the 2009 remasters – 13 Sep (US/CA)/5 Sep (UK)
  • “Queen: Live At Wembley 25th anniversary” DVD and the latest Queen remasters in standard and deluxe formats (to save space, only deluxe editions are listed in the diary) – 13 Sep (US/CA)/5 Sep (UK)*
  • deluxe box set of Jimi Hendrix’s “Wonderland” and other Hendrix CD/DVD reissues – 13 Sep (US/CA)/12 Sep (UK)
  • Ed Sullivan Motown DVDs featuring various artists/the Supremes/the Temptations – 13 Sep (US/CA)
  • the “Superheavy” collaboration between Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley, and A. R. Rahman – 20 Sep (US/CA)/19 Sep (UK)
  • “Elvis Presley – Young Man With the Big Beat” 5-CD box, including an unreleased live show – 27 Sep (US/CA)/26 Sep (UK)
  • first releases in the Pink Floyd remasters campaign, including deluxe and super deluxe sets for “Dark Side of the Moon,” and a 16-CD “Discovery” box set – 27 Sep (US/CA)/26 Sep (UK)
  • “Johnny Cash: Bootleg Vol 3 – Live Around the World”, which features many previously unheard live performances recorded between 1956 and 1979 – 27 Sep (US)/11 Oct (CA)/10 Oct (UK).

There are also new albums from The Bangles, Lindsey Buckingham and Chris Rhea; box sets from Sting and Madness; the Monkees on DVD; and much more.

British Pathé – A rock ‘n’ roll treasure trove

British Pathé broadcast thousands of cinema newsreels from 1910 until the 1970s, covering everything from major historical events to simple human interest stories. Not surprisingly, Pathé often turned its attention to the popular music stars of the day and as a result its archive is a real treasure trove for those interested in the great rock and pop legends, albeit with a British bias.

Backbeat stage show coming to London’s West End

A stage adaptation of the 1994 movie “Backbeat” is coming to London’s Duke of York’s Theatre next month.

“Backbeat” tells the story of The Beatles’ early years, with a focus on the raw rock ‘n’ roll of their time gigging in Hamburg, Germany.

Unseen Beatles photos sell for $360,000

Unseen photographs of The Beatles’ debut American concert have sold at auction for $360,000 (£223,600).

Teenage photographer, Mike Mitchell, captured the images on February 11, 1964 during the band’s historic show at the Washington Coliseum. The negatives had been stored for years in a box in Mitchell’s basement.

Mojo awards for Ringo Starr and Brian Wilson

Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, Martha and the Vandellas, and Donovan were among the veteran artists to be recognised at the Glenfiddich Mojo Awards tonight.

The ceremony took place at the Brewery in east London.

Ringo was awarded the Icon award and took the opportunity to deny rumours that he would be reuniting with Paul McCartney at next year’s Olympic opening ceremony. Starr said that he would be touring in the US at the time.
