Barney McKenna of The Dubliners dies aged 72
Written by admin on April 5, 2012 – 4:24 pm -Barney McKenna, founding member of Irish folk pioneers The Dubliners and renowned banjo and mandolin player, died unexpectedly at his home in Dublin this morning. He was 72.
McKenna was the only surviving member of The Dubliners, which was formed with Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, CiarĂ¡n Bourke in 1962 and initially known as “The Ronnie Drew Ballad Group”. After building a reputation playing at O’Donoghue’s Pub in Dublin, the group played the Edinburgh Festival in 1963, which led to an appearance on the BBC’s Hootenanny and a recording contract with Transatlantic Records. |

Jimmy Ellis of the Trammps dies aged 74
Written by admin on March 10, 2012 – 1:39 pm -Lead singer of the Trammps, Jimmy Ellis, died on Thursday from complications associated with Alzheimer’s. He was 74.
Ellis was best known for his great performances on Trammps classics such as “Hold Back the Night” and the Grammy award-winning hit “Disco Inferno”. |

Davy Jones of the Monkees dies aged 66

The Monkees singer fell ill while visiting a ranch near his home in Indiantown, Florida, and was pronounced dead at the nearby Martin Memorial Hospital. |

Billy Strange – 1930-2012
Written by admin on February 22, 2012 – 10:38 pm -Veteran songwriter, arranger, singer and prolific session musician Billy Strange died today in Nashville aged 81.
Born William Everett Strange on September 29, 1930 in Long Beach, California, he would go on to work with some of the biggest artists of all time during his lengthy career, including Elvis Presley, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, the Beach Boys, the Everly Brothers, Rick Nelson, Dean Martin, Willie Nelson, the Ventures and many more.
