Eric Clapton announces 2013 tour and fourth Crossroads Guitar Festival

Eric Clapton has announced a major tour for 2013, which will include a two-day Crossroads Guitar Festival at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Clapton’s 12-city US tour opens on March 14 at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ. He will be joined on the tour by long-time backing musicians Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Steve Jordan (drums), Chris Stainton (piano and keyboards), and Willie Weeks (bass); and newcomers Paul Carrack (organ and keyboards) and Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar). Michelle John and Sharon White will return as backing vocalists.

Original Status Quo line-up announce live return

The original line-up of Status Quo will reunite for a number of UK gigs next March.

Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan first played together as The Spectres in the early 1960s, changing their name to The Status Quo in 1967 and finally just Status Quo in 1969. Rossi and Parfitt have remained with the band ever since, but drummer John Coghlan and bassist Alan Lancaster left in 1981 and 1985, respectively.

Pete Townshend leaves stage during The Who’s tour opener

The Who’s “Quadrophenia and More” tour got off to a shaky start in Sunrise, Florida last night as Pete Townshend walked off stage during the encore and didn’t return.

Townshend left the stage during “Better You Bet,” after complaining that the sound monitors were “too loud”. The band briefly waited for the guitarist to return, before closing the gig with “Baba O’ Riley”.

NBC announces “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” telethon

Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi and Sting are among the artists who will perform at tomorrow night’s “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” telethon.

The telethon will raise funds for the many victims of the giant storm which measured 900 miles across and wreaked havoc across much of America’s north-east.
