Steve Reid loses battle with cancer
Written by admin on April 13, 2010 – 10:50 am -American jazz drummer Steve Reid died last night in New York after battling cancer. He was 66 years old.
Reid took up drumming at age 16 and began working at the Apollo Theater under the direction of Quincy Jones. After graduating college, he went on to work with a range of great artists, including James Brown, Miles Davis, Dionne Warwick, T-Bone Walker, Peggy Lee, Fats Domino, Ornette Coleman and Sun Ra. He was also a session drummer for Motown. It’s Reid’s great drum work on Martha and the Vandellas’ classic “Dancing in the Street.” |

Roger Waters to tour “The Wall”
Written by admin on April 13, 2010 – 7:27 am -Founding member of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, is playing the classic concept album “The Wall” on a 35-date tour of North America, starting in September.
The album was originally played in full by Pink Floyd in 1980 and 1981, and then famously by Waters as a solo project in Berlin in 1990. Waters is now revisiting the album after 20 years. |

Glory years of British rock – Harry Goodwin exhibition
Written by admin on April 11, 2010 – 8:53 pm -A fantastic collection of photographs of some of the biggest stars of the 1960s and ’70s will go on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London later this month as part of the “My Generation: The Glory Years of British Rock” exhibition. The exhibition will feature the photographs of Harry Goodwin, who was the resident photographer for the BBC’s Top of the Pops from 1964 to 1973.

Pop legends say “Things Go Better with Coke”
Written by admin on April 8, 2010 – 4:46 pm -Before the New Seekers had the world singing along to “I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke” in 1971, dozens of the biggest artists of the 1960s, including Marvin Gaye, Tom Jones, The Supremes and Roy Orbison, had recorded a Coca-Cola jingle as part of the “Things Go Better with Coke” campaign.

Ray Davies to fill Glastonbury ‘legends slot’
