“Donovan – The Essential Collection”

Written by admin on March 9, 2012 – 12:10 pm -

A double-CD set of Donovan’s seminal recordings titled “Donovan – The Essential Collection” will be released on April 17 through Epic/Legacy. The release will come three days after Donovan’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Donovan – The Essential Collection” contains all of Donovan’s 18 songs that entered the Billboard Hot 100 and UK national chart between 1965 and 1973, and another 14 carefully chosen album tracks. More than half of the 18 tracks on the first disc are present in their original mono mix, including the acoustic-based folk-rock tracks recorded for the UK’s Pye Records in late 1964 and 1965, and some Epic cuts from 1966.

Art Garfunkel’s “The Singer” out in April

Written by admin on February 15, 2012 – 9:17 pm -

Art Garfunkel The Singer A two-CD Art Garfunkel collection titled “The Singer” will be released by Sony Legacy in April.

“The Singer” contains 15 Simon and Garfunkel classics, plus an extensive gathering of solo Garfunkel material, taken from 1973’s “Angel Clare” through to 2007’s album of standards, “Some Enchanted Evening.”

Art Garfunkel chose the tracklist for “The Singer” and also provided track-by-track annotations, which appear in handwritten form in the booklet. For “Cecilia,” Garfunkel offered the following quirky observation:

“‘Car!’ we called in Queens. Then we stopped the game and stepped aside. I grew up where the brick houses were semi-attached with driveways in between. Punchball was king. Somehow the yelling we did as street kids found its way to ‘Cecilia.’ We shouted the song over a track we made from a tape loop of rhythmic hand clapping onto our blue jeans.”

Happy 70th Birthday Carole King

Written by admin on February 9, 2012 – 3:38 pm -

Happy Birthday to Carole King who is 70-years-old today.

King was born Carol Klein on February 9, 1942 in Manhattan, New York, and grew up in Brooklyn. She was still in her teens when she scored her first number one as a songwriter – the Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” co-written with her husband Gerry Goffin. The partnership with Goffin would produce some of the most memorable hits of the 1960s, including “One Fine Day,” “Up On The Roof,” “I’m Into Something Good,” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” The Goffin and King songwriting team was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
