A restored and expanded version of “The Rolling Stones: Charlie Is My Darling – Ireland 1965” will premiere at New York City’s Walter Reade Theater on September 29, ahead of a DVD/Blu-ray release in November. The film is being presented as part of the 50th New York Film Festival, which runs from September 28 to October 14. A second screening will take place at the same venue on October 3.

Originally titled “Charlie Is My Darling,” the movie was shot on the band’s tour of Ireland in 1965 and features the first professionally filmed concert performances of the Rolling Stones, including “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “The Last Time” and “Time Is On My Side”. The original movie was directed by Peter Whitehead and produced by Rolling Stones manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham. The 2012 version was put together by director Mick Gochanour and producer Rick Klein, who previously worked on “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus”.

“The Rolling Stones: Charlie Is My Darling – Ireland 1965” comes out on DVD, Blu-ray and as a super deluxe box set on November 6. Scroll down for pre-order information.

In other Rolling Stones news, there is also fresh speculation that the band will celebrate their 50th anniversary with new material after they were photographed leaving a Paris recording studio last week. This was followed up by Mick Jagger tweeting the following photograph, with the message “Had fun in the Paris studio this week!”

Mick Jagger has also recently confirmed that the band will definitely be performing live soon, perhaps as earlier as this autumn.

The Beatles’ 1967 movie “Magical Mystery Tour” has been restored for worldwide DVD and Blu-ray release in October.

The Beatles began filming “Magical Mystery Tour” in September 1967, following the huge success of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. The movie, which tells the story of a surreal coach trip to the seaside, was conceived, written and directed by the band. The supporting cast includes Ivor Cutler, Victor Spinetti, Jessie Robins, Nat Jackley, Derek Royle, and the inimitable Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

Casting has begun for the lead roles in a film version of the hit stage musical “Jersey Boys”. The movie will be directed by Jon Favreau, whose previous directorial credits include “Iron Man,” “Cowboys & Aliens” and “Elf”.

“Jersey Boys” tells the story of the rise to fame of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The show debuted on Broadway in 2005 and won four Tony awards, including Best Musical. The show opened in London’s West End in 2008 and won the Olivier award for Best New Musical.

Spike Lee is finishing up post-production work on a documentary about the making of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album.

The film will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the album and the world tour that followed it.

Among those interviewed for the film were Sheryl Crow, who was a backing singer on the “Bad” tour, Cee Lo Green, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Martin Scorsese, and many friends of the late star.

A new documentary titled “Freddie Mercury – The Great Pretender” will be released by Eagle Rock Entertainment on DVD and Blu-ray in September. “Freddie Mercury – The Great Pretender” was produced and directed by Rhys Thomas, who searched the Freddie Mercury archive for rare interviews, concerts, video shoots and personal material, much of which will be seen for the first time.
