Legendary artists to join Music Icons stamp series

Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Roy Orbison are among the artists who are being considered for inclusion in the U.S. Postal Service’s “Music Icons” series over the next few years. A Michael Jackson stamp is also planned, separate from the “Music Icons” series.

If it goes ahead, the John Lennon stamp will break the Postal Service’s convention that subjects must be American, but this wouldn’t be the first such breach.

“The Beatles – The U.S. Albums” 13-CD box set and individual album releases (21 Jan)
“The Doors – R-Evolution” on DVD and Blu-ray
“Small Faces – Here Come the Nice” 8-disc box set (28 Jan)
David Crosby’s “Croz,” his first studio album in over 20 years (28 Jan).

Elvis Presley’s 79th Birthday celebrated in Memphis

Elvis Presley would have celebrated his 79th Birthday today and there are the usual events in Memphis to mark the occasion, including a Proclamation Ceremony at Graceland.
