Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces 2014 nominees

Nirvana, Kiss, Deep Purple and Cat Stevens are among the 16 nominees for the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A panel of 600 artists, historians and music industry insiders will vote on which five will take their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next April. You can also have your say via the “fans’ ballot“.

Elvis’ Graceland tops Best Iconic American Attractions poll
Written by admin on September 12, 2013 – 5:24 pm -Elvis Presley’s Graceland has topped USA Today’s Best Iconic American Attraction list, as voted for by its readers. The public had four weeks to vote on 20 nominees, including attractions such as the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore and the White House. Graceland amassed nearly half of all votes.

Springsteen tops Rolling Stone’s Greatest Live Act list
Written by admin on July 31, 2013 – 8:53 pm -Bruce Springsteen has been voted the Greatest Live Act working now by a panel of writers, industry figures and artists convened by Rolling Stone magazine.
To be eligible for the list, performers must have toured within the last five years and not announced their retirement.

Canadian rockers honoured with stamps
Written by admin on July 21, 2013 – 8:26 pm -Rush, Guess Who, the Tragically Hip, and Beau Dommage will all be featured on postage stamps as part of Canada Post’s Canadian Recording Artists stamp series.
Designer Louis Gagnon of Paprika drew on feedback from the groups to focus on what fans recognised most about the artists.
The Rush and The Guess Who stamps feature the iconic logos that have been associated with the bands for decades.

Bono receives France’s highest cultural award
Written by admin on July 17, 2013 – 7:06 pm -Bono has received France’s Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters for his work as a musician and anti-poverty activist. He was presented with the award by French Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti during a ceremony in Paris.
Filippetti said in a statement:
“Beyond notes and beyond words, you committed yourself and dedicated your fame and career to wage some of the greatest wars of our time. Not for charity’s sake but in the name of justice.”
