Song of the Week #81 – “Volunteers”

Jefferson Airplane’s 1969 rocker “Volunteers” is “Song of the Week” on Classic Pop Icons.

“Volunteers” was released on single in September 1969, backed with “We Can Be Together.” It was also the title track for the band’s fifth studio album which was released two months later.

Bruce Springsteen announces new album and tour

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be touring and releasing a new album in 2012.

A statement on Springsteen’s official website read as follows:

“A lot of you have been hearing that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be on tour in 2012. That is absolutely correct. The European dates run from the middle of May until end of July and are being announced this week. Info on the US dates and the World tour dates will coming up shortly.”

The Eagles planning 40th anniversary tour

The Eagles will be touring next year to celebrate their 40th anniversary, according to guitarist Joe Walsh.

Walsh told Rolling Stone that the band will be on the road in the second half of 2012 for four or five months. He added:

“Everybody’s seen our show, so we have to put together something new. We’ve been archiving so much stuff from the band’s early days, concert footage and interviews and stuff. Those will be the visuals to go along with the songs. We’ll also revisit some old songs and some new stuff.”

Springsteen rocks Pittsburgh

Bruce Springsteen proved that he has lost none of his sparkle with an impressive two-night stand at Pittsburgh’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall last week.

The gigs reunited Springsteen with his friends Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, with whom he performed at the same venue last November. Springsteen and Grushecky have been friends for many years, working on the album “American Babylon” together in 1995.
