Levon Helm – 1940-2012

Levon Helm, singer and drummer for The Band, sadly lost his long battle with throat cancer yesterday (April 19) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He was 71.

Friend and guitarist, Larry Campbell, told Rolling Stone:

“He passed away peacefully at 1:30 this afternoon surrounded by his friends and bandmates. All his friends were there, and it seemed like Levon was waiting for them. Ten minutes after they left we sat there and he just faded away. He did it with dignity.”

Springsteen releases “Death To My Hometown” video

Bruce Springsteen has released a music video for “Death To My Hometown,” as well as details for the second North American leg of his “Wrecking Ball” tour.

“Death To My Hometown” is the second video from the album “Wrecking Ball,” after “We Take Care Of Our Own” which was released in February. Rage Against the Machine guitarist, Tom Morello, features in the video, which includes footage from the South By Southwest Festival, New York’s Apollo Theater, and Atlanta’s Philips Arena.

Axl Rose declines Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2012 Axl Rose has declined his planned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Guns N’ Roses. In a letter from Rose to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, obtained by the LA Times, he states that he will not attend the ceremony and does not wish to be inducted in absentia. He also reiterates that there will be no reunion of any kind at any time of the Appetite or Illusion line-ups of the band.
