Bruce Springsteen and U2 support ONE’s agit8 campaign
Written by admin on June 15, 2013 – 1:53 pm -Bruce Springsteen, U2, Elvis Costello, Mumford & Sons, Green Day, Kid Rock, and Ed Sheeran are among the 50 acts to contribute musical performances to ONE’s ‘agit8’ campaign.
The global music campaign aims to raise awareness of ONE’s work against extreme poverty and preventable disease.
Springsteen performed a version of “The Promised Land” from his classic 1978 album “Darkness on the Edge of Town”.
U2’s contribution was a new performance of their 1983 song “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” which opened their album “War”.
Bono, co-founder of ONE said:
“This week we are reminded of the words of the great agitator Nelson Mandela –
“Like slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome. Millions of people… are trapped in the prison of poverty. It is time to set them free. Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation.”
Since the 1970s Nelson Mandela has called upon artists and bands to use their platform to fight injustice. We were honoured then, we’re honoured now.”
