The 2-CD deluxe edition of Bob Marley’s “Kaya” was released this week. The 35th anniversary edition includes a remastered version of the original album, and a previously unreleased live show.

The deluxe release also includes the non-LP track “Smile Jamaica” which was the B-side of the “Satisfy My Soul” single. The track was written by Marley for the people of Jamaica after the assassination attempt on his life at the Smile Jamaica unity concert in 1976.

“Kaya” was originally released in March 1978 and had been recorded the previous year at Island Studios, London during Marley’s two-year self-imposed exile in England. This was the follow-up to his hit album “Exodus,” which had been recorded at the same sessions and yielded the popular singles “Exodus”, “Waiting in Vain”, “Jamming”, and “One Love”.

“Kaya” reached number four on the UK album chart in 1978, making it his Marley’s most successful original studio album in the UK. The album also yielded the top ten UK single “Is This Love” which is one of Marley’s best known songs.

Disc two of this deluxe edition features a show performed at Ahoy Hallen in Rotterdam, Netherlands on July 7, 1978. This was originally intended to be released with the “Babylon By Bus” album but was shelved.
